The Findelkind Hedgehog

Which hedgehog needs active help?
In most cases, a shelter and food is sufficient
Especially in autumn, the adorable animals start with the intensive search for food to eat the necessary fat supply for the winter. But the natural habitat of the animals is becoming increasingly scarce, in many places they only find food and shelter with difficulty.
If you find a hedgehog, you don't need to act immediately. Normally, it is enough to offer the hedgehogs a shelter and suitable food. However, there are exceptions where your help is needed:
- Orphaned Cubs
- malnourished hedgehogs
- Sick hedgehogs
- Hedgehogs infested by parasites
- Hedgehogs that are still active after winter
- Animals with obvious injuries

Properly wintering:
Bring the hedgehog to cool room. (garage, basement, etc. ) Build his housing there. Continue to provide until it falls into hibernation on its own. After awakening in spring (approx. April) until normal weight is reached (650/800 g), return to the original location as possible
The wintering in the home
The permanent recording of a hedgehog takes a lot of time and space, as it is not done with a box. Only under certain conditions should you take a found animal with you.
Approximately in November, at the latest at the onset of winter, the animals fall into their natural hibernation. If your hedgehog has only reached the necessary weight for it shortly before, you should leave it with you: (Ideal weight: young animals approx. 650 g, adult animals approx. 800 g).
- If your foundling child has reached the necessary weight in time before the onset of winter, you can let it calm down and let it winter naturally.

What does the hedgehog eat?
The hedgehog's natural diet includes beetles, worms, larvae, snails, woodlice and other insects. A water point should be available for hedgehogs at any time. With the Dehner Natura hedgehog food you ensure balanced and species-appropriate hedgehog food.
- Do not feed vegetables and fruit
- Dairy products and food leftovers can make hedgehogs seriously ill
Housing and lining
The right housing
If you encounter a hedgehog in your garden, then this is a compliment: a sign of a natural garden design that gives animals food and retreat. What is closer than giving the useful hedgehog with a special hedgehog house permanent residential right. As a rent, the hedgehog will decimate the snails, worms, beetles, larvae and other insects in your garden.
- Hedgehog house made of certified wood as a retreat and hibernation quarters
- Choose a quiet, shady and dry location
- Keep away from children or pets
- Firm base. (e.g. stone plate), lay out with hay, straw and leaves
- Do not disturb during hibernation (from late October / early November)
