Chicken farming made easy - for a little country life at home
Conditions for keeping happy chickens
Before you decide to keep animals in the garden, make sure that all conditions are created for happy chickens. On the one hand, your garden must provide enough space, because on a square metre of stable surface a maximum of three animals can live. A large run is also a must for species-appropriate chicken keeping. The spout should be about 10 square metres per chicken. On the other hand, you need to spend enough time to maintain the poultry. Each morning and evening can be seen after the animals, because they need new food and fresh water and must be left out of the hutch and back in.
The environment itself is also important. Bushes and shrubs require feather livestock to be able to hide. Lawn and soil is important for scraping. And dry soil or sand helps chickens get rid of parasites. If you can meet all these requirements, nothing stands in the way of the purchase.
Chicken farming at home – What is to note?
In order to get no problems, some things must be explained in advance. So you should inform adjacent neighbours and think about the purchase of a rooster thoroughly. A report of chicken conservation with the competent veterinary office and the animal disease cash is also necessary. Furthermore, the animals must be regularly vaccinated against Newcastle disease. The vaccination that is administered every six weeks by drinking water is obtained from the local small animal breeding club. Alternatively, you can take the animals to the vet once a year. Last but not least, when buying a chicken coop for the garden, you should observe the requirements of public building law. Mobile hutches usually do not require a permit, however, solid chicken coops. If all legal requirements are met, you can look forward to the keeping of happy and healthy chickens.
